Your ID card was stolen, lost, or just expired and is currently being renewed? You can request Annex 12, which serves as a temporary replacement.
Annex 12 is a document issued by the local municipal administration when a new ID card is requested, and it acts as a temporary replacement for the Belgian national identity card.
Loss or theft of the ID card: After an official declaration to the police or local administration.
Damage to the ID card: If the card is too damaged to be used.
Renewal of the ID card: When the previous card has expired or is nearing expiration, and a new one has been requested.
Annex 12 is a temporary document, valid until the new ID card is received. It allows citizens to continue proving their identity within Belgium, but cannot be used for international travel.
If your bank account is blocked, this same document can be used to unblock it.
To obtain Annex 12, you must go to your local municipality and apply at the ID card service. In cases of loss or theft, a police report may be required. Depending on the situation, administrative fees may apply.
However, it is strongly recommended to renew your ID card on time to avoid any inconvenient situations.
